Start with a shared definition
A lead is someone who has expressed interest and left a way to contact them. Not every completed form is a commercial opportunity. Before launching a campaign, define what makes a contact valid and what qualifies them for your offer.
For a dental clinic, aesthetic clinic or service business, criteria might include market, requested service and readiness for a consultation. Identify duplicates and spam separately.
Three numbers answer three different questions
CPL measures advertising spend per enquiry. Cost per qualified lead measures contacts meeting your agreed criteria. Cost per booking connects campaign measurement to an action closer to a sale.
The following example is illustrative only. It is not a market benchmark, a quote or a prediction.
Measure what happens after the click
A low CPL is not enough if contacts do not respond or do not fit the offer. Record source, date, owner and follow-up outcome in your CRM. Distinguish a booking from an attended appointment and from a paying customer.
To calculate full customer acquisition cost, include management, production and other relevant expenses. Compare periods and sources using consistent definitions; do not mix new leads with bookings generated by earlier months’ enquiries.
Optimise quality alongside volume
Your report should lead to a decision: improve the offer, message, form, landing page or follow-up. Lead generation can be purchased on its own, with branding and content supporting it where needed. Objectives and budget should reflect the specific business.
